Danny Quelch

There are not many people who can genuinely say that they enjoy going to work every day, but Danny Quelch, a Personal Trainer for almost quarter of a century, is one of those rare individuals.

Hoping for a career as a professional footballer, Danny was scouted as a teenager to play at Tottenham Hotspur FC.

However, when that particular dream came to an end, Danny turned disappointment into opportunity by pursuing a career in the fitness industry given his keen interest in exercise and health. He gained a qualification in Recreation and Fitness from Harlow College, and followed this up with an Advanced Fitness Instructor qualification from the ACSM (Amercian College of Science and Medicine). .

So Premier League football’s loss was the fitness industry’s gain.

Danny set up and ran a number of gyms including one at the prestigious Hertfordshire Golf before branching out on his own and establishing Fitness Focus over 15 years ago.

Danny says: 'I love the day to day buzz of working with people of all age groups and from all walks of life. No two clients are ever alike and depending on their fitness goals, neither is the challenge. I’m particularly proud of having trained a number of people to run marathons from being complete novices.”

Qualified to train all age groups whatever their personal fitness goals, Danny’s motto is: “Don’t start a diet that has an expiry date . . . focus on a lifestyle that will last forever.”

Allison Mackrell

Experienced Personal Trainer Allison Mackrell (Alli) became a PT following a motor accident in which she suffered a broken neck. Her surgeon suggested exercise as a way to counteract future problems. She has also had back surgery (disc replacement) so understands the problems people have with backs and necks.

As part of her rehabilitation, Alli worked with a Personal Trainer and gained first hand experience of how core stability training could help with her physical problems. As a dancer from age 3, it was a natural progression for her to obtain a professional qualification that would enable her to to pass on to others the invaluable benefits of working with a professional. She gained an Exercise to Music qualification through the YMCA and went on to qualify as a Personal Trainer through Herts Regional College (YMCA course) giving her a Level 3 qualification, which includes nutrition and core stability. Alli is also a qualified Sports Masseuse (ICT).

Alli says 'I love my clients and the unique environment that Danny has created at Fitness Focus, due mainly to his highly motivational, talented style.' Her only bug bear are the 4.00am starts.

Qualified to train all age groups whatever their personal fitness goals, Alli's motto is 'train the movement and the muscles will follow', this coupled with good nutrition.

Keith Mullings

As a qualified Football Association coach, when Keith Mullings decided on a mid-life career-change, becoming a Personal Trainer seemed like the perfect choice after 15 years coaching experience on the football field. Swapping the role of coach for pupil, he hired a trainer himself and after learning as much as he could first hand, he decided it was the right career choice and embarked on his Level 3 Personal Training qualification. Keith is also a qualified First Aider, Mixed Martial Arts and Advanced Gym instructor.

Keith has a personal interest in keeping fit through running and has competed in the Isle of Wight challenge (72 miles in two days) and the Pembrokeshire challenge, three marathons in three days along the Pembrokeshire coastal path. His next challenge is the Jurassic Challenge in 2014, another three marathons in three days challenge! Keith uses his considerable running knowledge to help his clients and has helped people that couldn’t run for more than 30 seconds compete in triathlons and marathons.

Keith says of his clients: “I love the fact that every day is different! Everyone has different aims and targets - whether it's losing weight, running 10k for the first time, or recovering for an injury or illness - helping people achieve goals that they never thought possible is truly amazing.”

Keith says: Fitness Focus is a unique gym! All of the trainers know what they are doing, and work in different ways, but work together perfectly, and the members are the friendliest I've come across. There is a real cross section of people training here and yet you walk in the door and they all say hello, they all work hard, and they all have fun!

Kesley Dedman

Like many Personal Trainers, Kesley Dedman (Kes) decided to turn a keen interest in health and fitness into a career by becoming a Personal Trainer.

Kes is a qualified YMCA accredited Level 2 Fitness Instructor and Level 3 Personal Trainer Instructor, and also holds an Advanced CV and Resistance qualification from Cambridge Regional College. He is also a qualified First Aider and has an Advanced Nutrition and Weight Management certificate.

Kes is particularly interested in human anatomy and physiology and enjoys training clients who have a set goal, for example if they want to lose 2 stone in 3 months. That kind of challenge really motivates him to motivate his clients as he’s interested in seeing how far the human body can be pushed to achieve maximum results.

Kes says: “Like the other trainers, I love my clients and I take a real personal pride in helping them achieve their fitness goals.” Everyone is so friendly at Fitness Focus and easy to get on with. There is such a wide range of members with all different levels of fitness and ability that it means no two personal training sessions are ever the same. Personal training at Fitness Focus is never tedious.”

Qualified to train all age groups whatever their personal fitness goals, Kes’s motto is "Today’s efforts are tomorrow’s gains."
